Need help finding leg mounts for 50s Rogers Floor Tom

Loading...

Hello out there, I just joined this forum after buying my first vintage drum via eBay...a 16 x 16 Rogers Holiday model floor tom with a "sparkling red pearl" finish.

The seller claimed it was 60s but it has plain drawn brass lugs so I'm thinking 50s. The inside label is Cleveland, but the serial number is unreadable due to damage to the label. The drum interior is black, and there's only a grommet in the badge hole (for an eagle badge?). Written in pencil inside the drum is "perfect 16 x 16 shell for white pearl for Grossman". Unfortunately, leg mounts and legs are missing.

So, two questions. First, does anyone have any thoughts about a more precise date for the drum? Secondly, does anyone have advice as to what sort of mounts and legs were originally on the drum, where to search for said hardware, and what hardware may fill in until I find the vintage parts? I foolishly ordered Pearl mounts only to find that they don't fit the screw hole spacing on my drum (2.25" apart).

Thanks!

Two bolt or 4 bolt pattern mounts?

Two Bolt............sta tights...... Very expensive and difficult to find.

Four Bolt............machined pat pend swivo ...... mounts and legs 100-200.--

Thanks for the quick reply, Ploughman. The leg mount pattern is two-bolt. Do you know of any other mounts that would fit the pattern?

Bit of work, but until you find the correct mounts, you could put a piece of wood drilled to fit the 2 hole pattern to put against the shell. Drill other mount pattern holes (countersink the inside of holes for bolt heads) and mount whatever you want in the meantime. That way there are no extra holes to worry about when you do find the correct ones.

Contact Bobby at http://www.drumfarm.com or maybe Al Drew Music at ALDREWMUSIC@aol.com to see if they can help with the mounts. Will be spendy I'm thinking.

Good luck

There were some B & B era drums that were painted black inside.

I think some of the real Rogers experts could chime in on that, but I believe they were the earlier Jasper shell drums.

There wasn't a badge over the grommet; there should be chrome script "Rogers" on the drum.

Thanks for the help, guys. Is wood a better option than rubber-coated metal if I want to use the "put an adapter between the drum holes and the mount screw heads" option? And as for the grommet/badge issues, there is no script badge on the drum, nor are there holes where a badge may have been.

I could post pictures if that would be helpful

Rubber coated metal would work just as well. Just make sure the second mount bolts don't touch the shells. Bit of creative bending should do the trick.

Please post whatever solution you come up with. Be fun to see how it finally came out.

Might be a longshot but Jim Perry specialises in Rogers repro parts - not listed on the site that I could see but worth dropping him a line, I think.

The Rogers logo would have been held on by three small nails...it the script logo is gone, the holes for them are pretty hard to find.
