I would be surprised if you couldn't find a suitable screw at Lowes. They have dozens of drawers full of all types and sizes of screws. Worst case would likely be that they have a screw longer than the 1/2 inch one you need. Get out the hack saw. Or, maybe they have the right screw with a Phillips or hex head. Who but you would know the difference or even care? When we lived in the Dallas area, there was a terrific local three store chain called Elliotts Hardware. I found many parts for mintage drum collection there that looked just like the original parts used by the drum manufacturers.
