I have been frutilessly looking for a reasonable deal on some mid 60's Ludwigs. On the DFO forum I saw a post for clubdates that had been lacquered in PURPLE a few owners ago. The guy selling was really nice explaining everything about them and posted some pics. The mounted tom is 14x10 (which is rare apparently), and the bd is 22x14. Those are both Clubdates, prob 60's. The floor is a 16x16 6 ply, non Clubdate and from the 70's. Theres no badges on any of them.
Here's the thread with pics: http://www.drumforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30351
He's asking $300 now before he puts it on CL, and I have been pricing wraps at Jammin Sams. I am looking at being close to $600 after shipping and the wraps. I have no idea what badges would run. On top of that I have to do the work myself.
So I have 3 questions I'd like some opinions on:
1. At what price point does this not become worth it to do? I am not married to Clubdates, but I would prefer to have a 3 ply floor.
2. What would be some period correct finishes for a 60's era Clubdate? I am thinking WMP. The Vintage Pearl is $206 before the tape, hoop strips and shipping. Their bargain WMP is $137 before the added costs.
3. If $600 is my budget, should I just hold out and keep looking? I decided I don't want a Standard kit, not fond of the lugs or badges so I know $600 will be tough for some classics.
Thanks in advance!
