To be fair, the person just isn't aware of the market these days and likely is just trying to avoid the potential that they will price the stuff too low. Plus, if there is any emotional attachment to an item like a drum kit, after owning it and playing gigs with it for years, then an uninformed seller will try to attach extra value to it based on their history with it. Of course, that history is meaningless to most anyone else (unless the guy is/was a celebrity).

I definitely agree and very well stated. After a no sale the seller might come to a realization themselves if they truly want to sell the drums to someone who will be a steward of them, or someone will educate them that the price is out of line.

They would be better off to start low with an undisclosed reserve as a litmus test what he market will bare.

Also, at times people will choose an asking price of an item according to something else they want to buy with the proceeds from the sale of that item, not according to the true value of the item for sale or the average market value of it. So to buy or afford what 'I' now want, 'I' need to sell something for the same amount of the new purchase price or as close as possible.

They just want to show that they have it and see it in displayed?? With no real intention of selling?

Now if they were the larger sizes and Dino Danelli owned, played and recorded them along with rest of the Young Rascals they still wouldn't be worth that, or at least to me.

Yeah, a typical big city (mid-town Manhattan) hustler: "ready to be played and/or purchased as an investment, for a positive—Return On Investment (ROI), should current and past history endure."

Thanks for clearing us up on ROI. Are you a Certified Financial Advisor? Too bad the current market for vintage drums remains quite flat. None of us will live long enough to turn a profit (a positive ROI, that is) on a 16K Downbeat-type kit.

And what does the snare look like, Mr. Used Car Salesman? No photos.

Marty, my thought exactly.

Probably took an economics class and wanted to impress throwing out the term ROI. At least Adam Smith and the Wealth of Nations (with its invisible hand) wasn't brought up in his discussion.

Still think the person is not serious about selling.
