In the mid 70's premier made kits with all mahogany shells and beech re rings,fron the pics you posted it almost looks like your kick drum could be mahogany although one part looks lighter.From your description of the sound you want I think you want the most controlled deadest sound possible,hydraulics would fit the bill,in my experience pins are more resonant than two ply emperors,you might try attacks dead head series also,or you could buy a 12" head of a couple different heads and see which you like best.

I think you are right, I have had a good look at the shells, they look to dark to be beech, I think they are Mahogany with a Beech re ring. I think I will ahve to spend a litlle to see what I prefer.

I would suggest you replace those reso's if you can. they are one of the biggest parts of the drum sound and older plastic ones tend to lose it a bit after 30 years or so...
