Well, fond of alusnares as I have become lately, cheapskate as I am I didn´t want to spend the small fortune it takes to buy a Ludwig 400 and a 402, so have been looking a Beverley 21 and a Premier 1036, both quality alu-snares that mr. Ludwig admired quite a lot. So the telling goes, at least....
I got the Beverley on ebay.uk last week and was quite chuffed - until I got it.
First impression was that it had led a hard life - small dings and dents all over. No problem, I will bash them out, and they are good karma.
Next I see that the top hoop is cracked - nearly all the way through, to the point of breakage. Not so big a problem, I have some lying on a shelf.
Heads off - now the problems are growing big. The reason for the "misplaced badge", as the seller had described it somewhat poetically, was that it was hiding the large hole where the damper had pulled out. I levered off the badge, badly tacked on with glue to see how bad it was. See:

OK, I am a fixer, so I fix it. Find piece of alu (lid from the kitchen), saw to shape, bend slightly, glue in place on inside with epoxy, glue badge to outside, make a hole and fit grommet.

Bash out dings and dents and re-assemble the drum.
Errr, no. Two lugs were broken too, the edges where the insert-holders run were broken on two.

I could just assemble them and make them work, but I don´t know for how long this bodge will work.

PS. Seller pleads unguilty due to ignorance - he didn´t know, he says. Never paid attention, even when changing the heads, which, by the way, were very nice and almost new.
