Neat/strange snare I picked up the other day

Loading...

Hey guys,

I got this snare drum the other night from a guy for $5. It's pretty banged up, so I think that's about all it was worth. : ) (Although it did come with an old snare stand, and those are always neat, I guess.)

Anyway, the top skin says a Stewart, but is it? There's no badge on it. It's a fairly thick shell, not like my other kit (a MIJ stencil set, with those thin 3 ply shells).

And what's with the finish?? It's like a weird plastic-leather-ey thing?

I'm going to try and clean/polish it up and see if I can't get it looking funky.

cool score man.... i can't swear to it, but it seems like i've seen the diamond (kind of Fibes-y) lugs on stewart drums before... i dig that wrap too... kinda looks like a red version of black panther....

I remember seeing these years ago. Unless I am mistaken the finish is textured naugahyde.

That's what it feels like, anyway...

Cool score for $5!! Cool1 I dig that finish. Pretty rare as far as I can tell. Shouldn't cost too much to bring the drum back to life. Please post pictures again when this baby is all shined up!

Your snare is one of these three names all made by Pearl..C.B.700 or maxwin or maxtone..Made in the 70's,shell is more than likey a 5 ply or 7 ply shell with no rings..The lugs are copys of Pearls lugs..The finish is Red Naugahyde in the 70's when Pearl made these sets the finish came in three color's Red,Black,Blue...Your snare is some what rare because of the finish. This finish does show up from time to time....Nice drum...Mikey

Thanks for the info, Mikey.

I'll post some pics when I get her all shined up and looking respectable.
