Hi all. I've taken delivery of an old cymbal today that I purchased through ebay... The seller described it as "maybe" and old Zildjian Constantinople. There aren't any stamps on it, except for the faintest mark of what might be a star and crescent. However, it is signed on the underside of the bell. One signature is clear, and another is very faint. It's a 13" and has definitely got some age to it, is hand hammered and sounds pretty fantastic. The edges are slightly chipped in places and are pretty rough all round... I didn't pay very much for it, so really I'm not too worried on whether it is an old K or something, but any information that anybody can provide would be really appreciated. I am thinking of having the edges repaired and have found a guy who goes under the name of Cymbal Magic in the UK, who can sort it out for around $30 - $40.

I've attached a few pics of the pie... Hopefully someone out there may recognise something!

That's an Italian. There's lots of these things floating around, mostly in Europe, masquerading as old Comstantinople K's.

I also think that this cymbal is 40's-50's Italian cymbal,judging from the signature,the hammering,and the upside down star and crescent stamp (that's what make its different from vintage Z's,which has the stamp in right position,not upside down).

Another thing is,I quite impressed because it has both Ajaha (signature) and Smyrne/Zveltiam (upside down crescent and star stamp) characteristics in this cymbal

Many thanks Drumaholic and xipa4 for your reponses and for sharing your expertise. I'm pretty chuffed that it's an Italian, as they have an distinguished history of pies (UFIP and Spizzichiono spring to mind, as well as the Super Zyns (but that could be an urban myth I understand)). I'm presuming that originally it would have been from a pair of hats, although I'll play it as a crash... As I said before, I'm going to get the edges sorted and will then start hitting it!

Can You post a soundfile? How much does it weigh?

Looks very cool and it's interesting that You like it as a crash, I think that is not very frequent in case of these old small cymbals.

Cheers Chicago Dave. I've been looking into vintage Italian cymbals, and I kind of figured that it was a Ajaha. I only based this on the lack of stamp. Belloti cymbals seem to be pretty rare and pretty highly rated... I've been playing around with this pie, and it's lovely as a light ride, and really trashy (in a good way) when crashed. Sorry for the lack of soundfile... I'll try and sort it by the weekend.

BTW,Belloti is having a circular stamp that says Belloti Italy.

Some version have a logo of the bell in the middle of the circular text,some don't.
