Does anyone know what the heck this is?

Yup, that's a Leedy "Commander" snare. Made sometime between 1942-1945. The metal shells were brass, but usually nickel plated, and it would have had metal "stick chopper" hoops originally. Looks like someone stripped the shell of its nickel plate, polished it and replaced the metal hoops with wood ones.

Probably a few hundred dollars at best. Its not entirely original, and although it may be rare, it isn't as sought after as say a Broadway Parallel or other high end Leedy drums of the day.

And this is just a guess on my part. Mike Curotto, or someone like him, might have a better idea than me. I've only had a few Leedy drums over the past couple of years and nothing of this vintage. Everything was much later......
