Just trying to decide if this snare is worth the drive to pickup. Anyone have any info they can glean from this pic?

Thanks, Greg

MIJ. If it's reasonable close and say 20 bucks, yes. They can be made to be very fgood snares, despite what many would have you believe. I have a few of these and 4 of them are top notch, upper intermediate quality tone and sound. I know I will get blasted as I normally do, but I'm tellin' ya, try one out. You can always get 40 bucks for them on C/L with new heads and a good tune up. GC has a special on Aquarian Z-100 coateds for less than 10bucks right now and they are perfect for this drum.

Now, it does matter on the ply what you will get out of it. If it is the super thin 2-3 ply, it is going to have a very low tone and will make for some interesting jams. If it is 4-6 ply, you will get it to sound very much like any other snare. It just takes a little patience, and a good knmowledge of the wood. I have some superior sounding drums.

Go to my youtube link below, and listen to the blue sparkle and the Star Resurection. Be forewarned, I suck, period. But you get an idea of the tones these drums have, even though the camera sound quality, and my ability are in the toilet. I ain't a drummer, I'm the one that just loves drums and loves working them into something you can be proud of.

For that one, the set up is an Evans medium snare side, or Hazy 200 and try that Z-100 on the top. If the wires are worn, throw 7 bucks at the cheap snappies, they are really not as bad as people think. I used them on my acro and they were cleaner that the perfect condition Luds. Tune it up, just to medium and work it up from there. You will be very surprised. These are cool bang for the buck snares. I'll tell you a secret, I know two members who use them as front line snares. Even with top of the line vintage gear, because of the cool factor and tones they have. I am sworn, so please don't ask. If they wish to divulge, they will.

I personally enjoy the sound these snares provide when tuned up just right...
