Mystery Pedal

I'm not entirely certain whether pedals are on-topic, but here goes.

One of my favorite pedals (especially for recording) is shown below:

It has a certain Yamaha vibe to it, although it's definitely not a Yamaha, nor any other "name" brand. The only words on it are "TAIWAN R.O.C." on a screwplate under the heel. It would appear to be from the late 70s or early 80s. Twin springs, direct drive, and an unusually high quality of fit and finish for a no-name component. Anyone have any context for it, or general thoughts on where it fits in equipment history?

Pearl built a pedal like that. Another company used the design after Pearl was done with it. Many of the period stencil sets came with a pedal like that or the one with a chain instead of the two bars. The spring connectors on the axle tend to loosen up over time,causing slop. Occasionally they'd fall off entirely.

Probably a Tamaha OEM courtesy of Glen Kwan's ROC drum company.

His company imported some interesting hardware over the years he was in business(80's).
