Mystery Drum kit

Loading...

Hello all! I'm looking at this drum kit on a drum shop web site.

Quite intrigued by it. They reckon it's a Diatone drum kit from Japan, 1978-80. But there is no history of it anywhere. Anyone heard of Diatone Drums? I know there's Diatone electronics.

Ask them what it says on those badges, then tell them Pearl made a gazillon different brands for a gazillon different retailers.

There, Mikey don`t have to write it again !i

HA! Yup, you saved Mike some time... :)

Pearl starter kit, seems like a nice wrap. Maybe just a tad older due to the rail mount and badge type.

Interesting as that looks like an early 70s Yamaha wrap http://www.flickr.com/photos/41363633@N00/sets/72157632948696779/

It looks like that may be a 10 lug bass drum. How common is that for old MIJ's?

Thanks for the replies guys. You're right Fayray, that wrap looks like those Yamaha shells. And Oddball, i should ask what it says on those badges. The price is tempting for that shell pack (£100).

It's a bit hard to tell from the pic ,, the floor tom legs looks like they may have been replaced with Premier floor tom mounts and legs .

That may be the coolest looking wrap I have ever seen ... I love it! I'd pick those up in a heartbeat (but it would mean certain divorce) ...:(

Taking into account the oval badge, at this distance, I'd be more inclined to say it's Star built, as the rail and badge mean for almost certain pre-71. Get a better shot of the badge and I'll call it.
