Hi. This 18” crash/ride cymbal appears like an Avedis Zildjian cymbal, but it’s something unknown...?? No drum shop I’ve checked knows; do you?

Matao. Italian made and most likely by Tosco. Tosco is most likely based on ink present on other examples of these in my records. Made for a Made In Japan (MIJ) stencil brand of drums. Here is the trademark right side up as well as a snare with the same badge.

If you search the web for Matao, don't believe any seller who suggests that Tosco and UFIP were the same manufacturer. They were always separate. There are also those who assign the Japanese manufacturer of Matao to Honshino/Star but I'm not sure how reliable that is either. I'm not really up on the myriad of MIJ stencil brands and who made what. But given that we now know the name perhaps somebody else here does know a specific manufacturer for Matao drums.
