Mystery 60's Japanese Drums!

Loading...

I could use some help Identifying what type of kit this is. I know my way around vintage drums pretty well, but this one has me stumped. I got this kit from a friend who didn't need it and I fixed it up to make it look great. Everything besides the heads are original. there's no manufacture logo or stamp anywhere on anything besides the occasional "Made in Taiwan Republic of China." I've seen the lugs re-appear on Pearl drums later on, and it looks like the tom mount tried to copy the Swiv-o-matic which fed into Yamaha's mounting system. I think it could be late 60's but I'm not quite sure. anyways, if you think have any info on it, let me know. I know its probably not worth anything but I at least want to give people a definitive answer when they ask me what type of kit it is. I have plenty of pictures of all the intricacies upon request.

Thanks!

Chris

Very typical Pearl-built stencil kit from the 70's.Many were sold w/no badge by various department stores and mom+pop music stores. Or the factory could attach any generic brand name you chose. I owned a CB 700 set exactly like that one which I used for jazz/GB work around St. Pete,FL.

Hello ChrisVDL

I concur with the others who have replied

I have seen that same exact configuration of drums with badges and without

In my own collection I have an unbadged blue sparkle kit

and the identical kit with Dixie badges

there is also a red sparkle kit like yours with the C.B. 700 badges

others I have found are Cortley Royce, Jet, and Maxwin

attached is a seller's pic of my no badge blue sparklers

Purchased from an eighty-five year old lady in Natick Mass for $35

The 13" drum was nowhere to be found

but just before leaving, with my three drums, the woman's grandson emerged from the attic with the snare drum

thought originally to be long gone by my seller

Your drums look Great!!...Good Luck with them

Well, wait a moment, I believe the MIJs of that era were made in Japan, only CB-700 was produced in Taiwan. CB-700 was owned by Pearl but it was a distinct brand and much better quality than they are usually given credit for. They'll never fetch a lot of $$ but if you put a good bearing edge on those you will be amazed how good they can sound.
