That set is just coming right along. It's looking really good

Don't mean to grave dig. I know this thread is old. I just got a set of vintage stews for $250 on craig's list that are identical to this one. I bought it yesterday, played it in a really small gig for kicks, and now I'm looking to go down this path of cleaning them up. I feel like I hit the jackpot finding this thread- it's even the same color haha. Just want to say thank you. Also, still have these drums 2-3 years later? What heads did you end up throwing on those bad boys? How are they doing if you still have them?

If you're going to dig up old threads, this was a good candidate IMHO. One of my favourites. Plus we can have a new one when you clean your kit and post it here!

haha yeah it's tempting to sand against the grain when it's down the drum like that, but I will stay strong. I want to get started on this in the next few days, I just gotta find the magic to use on the lugs/rims, and then whatever on the inside of the shells. Probably just gonna copy the OP. I've never done this before. I'm gonna start with the bass drum though so it just gets easier and easier.

Well I have run into a snag.

When I bought the drums, the bottom head was off of the floor tom. I didn't think much of it. I still had the hoop and rods. I've been cleaning/polishing the lugs, and I'm currently on the floor tom. I realized that the set of rods he gave me for the hoop that wasn't on were not metric. Anybody know where to find some metric tension rods?

I'm sure they can be found in the mean time you can just replace the inserts and use standard.
