hey john

thanks for the birthday wishes and all the kind words! much appreciated my friend. this was great to be able to help you get the drum. it was such a great kit at any rate. and then finding the correct matching snare is just icing on the cake.

sorry i missed your call today. was out and about today and just got it. shoot-my own brother didnt even call me today to wish me happy birthday. whats the old saying...you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family!

youve done plenty for me in the past john. this would be the least that i could do. glad that you are enjoying it. the pics are awesome.

if you look closely in the top pic of the snare(that i took), you can see my big old tattooed arms reflected in the lower hoop! didnt realize it until today when you posted it.

Man, I took about 6 shots of that snare drum and none of them came out as good as your outdoor shot, so I used yours!

Tatoo's? I've got two half-sleeves (upper arms) and I've been itching to get the Kung Fu Dragon on one forearm and the Tiger on the other. Bev won't have it. She says it will 'upset' her and Lord knows I don't want to do anything to upset her. But even at 63, I'm still jonesing for more ink! I wanted to do the dragon and tiger in black & Grey. I love that look on tatoos. I can see a bunch of small pieces on your arms, are they off-the-wall flash or stuff you had designed to work as a single piece? My stuff was mostly hand-drawn, a couple of flash pieces are incorporated (a dragon, a Phoenix and a large Lotus) and it's all done Japanese-style. I love oriental tatoo designs. My favorites are the body suits worn by the Yakuza gangsters. Beautiful, traditional art.

Enough tat-talk...

John, great story. Really enjoyed the pics of your kit, yes even the ones with you in them. I have a sbp jazz fest but not a pre serial. It came with a club date kit, my first vintage drum set. I love mine also.

Mike, your a good guy to help out John the way you did.

Again, good story!

Awesome snare John, looks great with the kit. I just love the way that Sky Blue Pearl ages, super classy! Btw, glad you didn't have to give up the COB.

That is super nice, John! I'm glad this story had such a happy ending. I don't mind selling something to get something else, but hate to sell something I don't want to sell to get something I want more. I'm glad you got to hang on to your Super. That was real cool of Mike to help make that happen.

John, that is a beauty! Leave it to Mike to be the one to help you out. Two of the best guys on here working together. Not to mention two o my favorite subjects, drums and tattoos. Mine are growing together and soon I will be down to just two. This side and that side. Glad to see that drum in loving hands.
