My new Premier 2000 snare

Loading...

I worked an entire week to restore this 14" x 5" Premier 2000 snare drum, completing it last night. It belonged to a deceased professional drummer, and was part of a gigantic setup which is also in my possession awaiting restoration. It's stamped 1972 inside the shell alongside each snare bed, and came with original snare wires (two individual sets of 12 wires), which were too badly "sprung" to make proper contact. After taking this photo, I managed to improvise and retrofit an older set of Rogers snares designed for a 15" drum so that the drum now performs perfectly, first resetting the height adjustment threaded pins to their lowest position, then looping standard snare cord around them and fastening the knots on to the top sides of the snare wire butt plates. A few minor adjustments of the knots and wire position later, and the drum now roars with a perfectly precise snare action and rich, throaty tone! Can't wait until the rest of the kit is finished!

Re: "Why not use Premier 2000 Series wires?"

"Currently unavailable.

We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

I searched far and wide every domestic source, only to find either "currently available" and/or "out of stock". That's why. But thanks for the suggestion regardless!

I have a set of wires, brand new never used. I maybe able to source them out here in Canada, there was a premier wholesaler here he got me the height adjustment assemblies that the 2 height screws fit into. under the chrome end caps. the part that is also for wire tension adjustment. I have a coupe of those left too. brand new in the premier bag, card packaging. I think you have to source out the wholesale people not amazon .com. or any of the other on line buy systems. you only would get puresounds anyway. my wires say premier on the ends. made for the 2000, 2002 snare systems.

Aluminium shell, must sound great. Looks great too, good job

The shell may be steel, it wasn't specified. Given the very good condition of the plating on a 1972 drum in need of 'restoration', I'd lay odds it's steel. The magnet test will determine which.

Steel shelled 2000s sound great as well, as I can attest. -Ron

It's definitely a seamless aluminium shell! I worked out on the drum for a couple of hours today and am most impressed - such a unique sound; so very different than vintage Ludwig Supraphonics or Super Sensitives. And its response and definition is truly unmatched. Absolutely no choking at fortissimo and effortless press rolls at all volumes. Musical rim clicks and explosive rim shots! Such styling and engineering! Simply amazing!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the later edition 2000's shells are welded steel?
