My lucky Sonor Phonic score

Loading...

I wasn't even actively looking!

A perfectly matching 12x8 for my Phonic Natural Beech set, in obviously 'primo' condition.

How rare is this?

Congratulations! That's a bop kit, right? It's beautiful. I have one in Natural Oak, with the original ferromangan bassdrum hoops..

I would say anytime you find a pristine orphan to match an existing kit, that is pretty rare. To find a Sonor match is probably rare by an order of magnitude. Congratulations. That is a great find regardless of cost and a beautiful kit that I am certain sounds fantastic. I could not help but notice you seem to have set your kit up backwards though......Cool Dude

Hey Magnus, It is a bop set; 12x14x18.

I have the original steel b.d. hoops but I switched them out for maple for a warmer timbre.

Cool. So those maple hoops really do make a difference in sound? Maybe I should get some...

Yes. As I'm sure you know, Phonics can really project when you want them to.

I play my b.d. with coated ambs tuned fairly high... no dampening... with either a felt beater double-wrapped with a sock or a Vater 'Rolling Bomber'.

Same head-choice as me, except that I now have calf and goat heads on two of my 3 Phonic kits since about a year or two.

Yeah, they do project. I like them tuned high as well.
