My latest WFL 6.5 Resto

Loading...

Finished up buffing the hardware and assembly of this one today. Mid 50's WFL 6.5 x 14 mahogany with nickel over brass hoops & nickel hardware. My friend Anthony at The Village Drum refinished the shell in clear satin. Real nice wood grain on this drum, Im happy with the results. Next up... assembly of his twin brother, a refinished 1959 mahogany 6.5 transition badge.

Many thanks guys, I think I love seeing the old battered ones returned to life more than finding pristine ones. Sometimes its a challenge. I was able to save and use all the original parts on this one, including the grommet for the badge. If you take your time, the results can be very nice. I placed the original strainer faceplate on a 59' p-83 because I plan on playing it out, and it works smoother than the old style. I have the original and Ill save it. The drum sounds good... playin it out this weekend. Next up is the transition badge 6.5 and then a WFL 7x14 Zephyr lug.

and thanks to all who post tips and info. This forum is a great resource.

I agree with you. It's so much fun to massage out the battle scars and resurrect an old drum...and very rewarding!

Congratulations on a job very well done! That is a gorgeous drum!
