I have had this old Sabian B8 pro 18" medium crash for years. I have broken it a few times and thus had to weld it a few times. Anyway I retired this cymbal last year to my garage for experiments; today I said f*ck it, got my ball peen hammer and a block of wood, and made a china cymbal out of my crash.

It took about 30 minutes of hammering, but the shape and sound is totally china, and a nice sounding one at that. No sound check yet but I do have some pics. This black lines were my rough out lines to hammer, I did not need one for the outter edge bend, just the other two bends for that china sound. I'm a BAMF haha!

nice work on the rehammer!

The bronze will need to rest a bit and the tone will change once it does, but it sounds great!

I've done the same thing with a few cymbals. In the end you get more of a trash sound than a pure china sound. It's more of an effects cymbal. Try a stack, combining it with an inverted small crash or other cymbal. I have done this effectively with an orphan hi-hat as well and created a really good effect. I don' think you will get a purely musical china sound, but you can have fun trying.
