My guess is Apollo-what's yours?

Question: What's the name of the theater that is famous for their "Amateur Night"?

Just kidding:

I just won these on the bay. 13/16/22/14 SD. Any guesses from the MIJ Gallery? No pictures of the interiors on ebay, and the guy was not a drummer or collector, so he couldn't give me much info, other than that everything was original and the wood inside was good, no warping or splitting etc.

They ship from California to Ohio, so I am hoping to have them middle of next week.

Thanks,

V

A 1960's Star made set..To many names to pick from to name the set....Mikey

I'd agree with Mikey.

Could well be Apollo but, due to the wrap color and the knock-off Slingerland 'stick saver' rims, it could be Majestic or any of a number of other stencil brands.

The kit does look good, though.

Not sure. I was told that it was, but I don't have them in person yet, so I can't quite tell.

In the pictures, I thought it was extra holes on the top of the bass drum, but it's just some small dark spots where the badge used to be.

I guess since it is an unidentifiable Star stencil, I could pick any number of name badges to install and most likely be "right", huh?

I'm curious to see what the color of the wrap originally used to be. I dig the color now, but I'm sure that in its present state, there has been a least some fading going on.

If you need some Star drum made badge's for the set i have some New Old Stock round shape Tempest badge's that would work on the drums for you....Mikey

You may still see the outline shape left on the wrap from the original badges...This may help narrow the name brand down...Just sayin'

Exactly. Most likely the badge was oval (still assuming it was made by Star). So you might take any of the oval badges from Mikey777.

I don't think that a round Star badge was applied there before: if the stick saver hoops are original, the set was one of the earlier ones. The round/ silver Star badge appeared a little later for the first time.

BTW: a nice set!

You see - that's the expertise kind of PI work that goes around here with a team that emerges out of the views. We all enjoy it - and it is amazing how much we can figure out about a given kit with the knowledge that is on here.

Lovin' it!

I have a non-badged MIJ but not sure if I want to badge it or not - might leave it to be a mystery. The FT shell (only one I have access to right now) has an air hole/eyelet only - with no evidence of any badge. After this thread, I will be looking very close once I dig out those shells.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hey John,

It's possible your drums never had badges.

Those sold by Sears in 1965-1966 (availabe in only red sparkle or blue sparkle) did not have any badges. They had no brand marking at all, except the word 'Pearl' on the bsckside of each tension lug.

Also, these kits used the tom mount pictured (above) for the ones with center mounted, single, lugs while the sets with seperate, double, lugs had a rail-type tom mount (but still used the diamond shape plate on the tom.)
