My first snare from the past a "Excellent condition DEL REY" in orange

From randythemachine

I was thinking it had to be somewhere in the mid 60's because of the strainer, and because the wrap reminds me of the Psychedelic time. I really can't believe that this snare is that old and still looks new. Do you think the case could be that old too ? I don't think I'll use this for any gigs, I don't want to due anything stupid like put any marks on the shell or badge, or expose it to cigarette smoke. How much could this be worth for insurance purposes or if I want to sell it to a collector? thanks for the info, randy

Truth is maybe 60-75, if the case is original. I believe this is a Star, however the strainer is a 3 point Slingerland knock-off that I have only seen once or twice so it may be a Pearl design. The Star from this period is a 4 point and this looks more like a 3 point I have only seen on Pearl. Del Rey was a Pearl stencil for most, if not all, of it's life. I love that wrap. If you put it on e-slay and someone has a full kit, PLEASE get a full set pf good quality pictures and post them so we have a record of this wrap.

Even if that case isn't original to the drum, it's the same vintage. It kinda looks like a hair dryer case from the sixties!

If the case is from the 60's then it had to be bought when the drum was new because the drum looks like new and the inside of the case looks new. I would think that the value of them would be higher, but I don't plan on selling them so I guess it doesn't matter. I will take some good pics and post in the gallery soon.

MIJ drums just don't bring the cash. I love them, but they are not highly praised nor sought after as far as value goes. Sorry to be a bummer, but it is what it is. $75 is high dollar for a MIJ snare.

I've decided to sell my Del Rey since I have gotten my thrill from it and I'm not a real collector anyway, I've had and sold a bunch of rare drums in the past so it's time for this one to go to a real collector. I disagree with a value of $75 because I've seen ones that have looked like there were left outside for years and rusted sell for close to that. I have it listed on ebay now and will take offers and see what the market will bring. I'm selling it as I got it except for fixing the throw off rivet and without the case.
