My first Sabian

I think these are the earlier ones with this style of stamp. Can you see any faint ink stamps on yours? Mine does have the modest Sabian ink stamp logo on the bottom also.

There is a remnant of an ink stamp .... unreadable, below and to the left of the

stamp in my pic.

You can see a little of it in my pic.

Looks like it was about the size of the ink stamp on yours.

Thanks, man!!

Late to the party ... BTO ... ok ...

So, that appears to be an early edition Sabian. Very nice one. I would imagine it plays great. They had it going on for sure. Enjoy!

I know without pics its hard to tell, but I have a 20" HH Rock Ride with the large Sabian ink on the bottom(which is much larger than the one in the pics in previous posts), designated HH in the bottom corner of the "rainbow", along with a worn off large logo on the top, with Rock Ride on the "back"(or so I call it) or the far side of the top...I just tracked down an 18" thin Zildjian crash I had to the '70's, and Im just wondering if I have something going with this ride cymbal and should take it out of commission and find another ride to play on.

Ill try to get pics, but every pic I have is too big for this site. Soap Box

The early hand hammered Sabians were denoted by "Handhammered" as opposed to "HH".

I remember what Drumaholic said about Sabian being more true to the original Zildjian sound than Zildjian is.

I hear what he means in this cymbal.

Sounds more like a 50s or 60s Zildjian than an 80s or younger Zildjian does.......??

I'm no Sabian historian (just your ordinary cymbalholic) but as far as I know:

they started off as HH with the discrete HH down in the "rainbow"

then they became Hand Hammered in that font I think of as kind of "Chinese" looking because the strokes are wider at one end than the other.

later they became the HH series again (plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose)

Sorry I can't put dates to the changes, and don't have pics.

Do you know of a period before the discrete HH down in the "rainbow"? That would extend my knowledge.

My favorite logo (and Sabian cymbal) is the early Sound Control HH one in a maroon color where sound control is written diagonally across the "rainbow", and the HH discretely in the corner. Nearly managed to score one once...but it got away.

I believe you are correct. I went back through my pics and pulled up my HH Sound Control CrashRide. Sure enough, there it was. My mistake.

You have one! My favorite. You don't have a maroon label one as well? I'd be officially jealous. :D
