Greetings,
My new girlfriend happen to mention to me that her son used to play the drums and that she had an old set in her basement. She said they were kinda beat up and probably not very good and that they were missing parts. I told her I would be happy to clean them up, replace the missing parts etc. for her. After going to her place a few times, she mentioned that she would give them to me to take back home to work on.
To my surprise, she had them waiting for me in the garage the next time I went over. Rogers Holidays! I am not very knowledgeable on Rogers stuff, so I'm hoping to get some help filling in the blanks from all of you.
The BDP is in great shape. Also, from what I understand, the Bread & Butter lugs, along with the collett mounts are notorious for cracking. All of these are in great shape with no cracks. Everything is in near perfect shape, except for some torn heads. The floor tom has beaver tail lugs, while the snare, rack and bass have B & B lugs. The floor tom has a Dayton tag, the other three have a Cleveland tag (pics in response below). The bass drum has coated heads on both sides, so I did not yet get a pic of the bass drum tag/Serial #.
As you can see, the snare is mounted off a Swivo arm. It's a longer than normal hex arm receiver and the ball mount is at a 90 degree angle as opposed to a regular Swivo mount.
The sizes are 12/16/20 with a 14 Snare. The snare has the clock face strainer. All the internal tone controls are identical, including the floor tom. It came with a Dewey snare stand, and an MIJ pedal and hi-hat stand. It also came with a 14" MIJ Floor tom in BDP Wrap that is slightly different (Drum Mate brand with Slingerland copy lugs).
The drums technically belong to her ex-husband, so the plan is to get them all cleaned up and replace the missing parts and help her find a buyer, of which I'll get a cut of the loot. Incidentally (and I'll be posting a thread in the "Wanted To Buy" section too, but I will need a Swivo Tom Arm, a Swivo Cymbal Arm and one bass drum spur).
Here are my questions:
1. Is there a specific name or model for this kind of Holiday outfit with the snare mounted on the bass drum? Was this a special order? Was this a DIY job or aftermarket addition? Is the Swivo arm shown correct for the bass drum mounted snare?
2. I assume the other two mounts on the bass drum are for a regular Swivo arm (for the rack tom) and a Swivo cymbal arm? Does the placement look correct for those?
3. Is there any difference in value/desirability for drums "not born together" (ie Floor Tom with a Dayton Tag, higher serial # and beaver tail lugs)? The wrap is identical.
4. Based on the Serial Numbers in the pics below, what year does it date these to?
5. When I get to polish and clean these, any certain tips or tricks for Rogers? I know the B & B lugs crack easily so I will be very careful not to over tighten them when reassembling. I've cleaned up and polished a lot of kits, so I know what I'm doing (non-abrasive methods, no harsh chemicals etc.), but anything in particular to be cautious of on these?
Thanks so much for your help!
