my first rewrap !

Loading...

Hi Everyone

I am a newbie to forums as well as restoring old drums. I hope you can help......

Long story short..many moons ago I had two toms stolen from my 70's gretsch kit wrapped in "black nitron"? I recently found two orphan toms here in my hometown of Winnipeg and I want to add them to my kit. They are wrapped in amber veneer and I wish to rewrap them. I believe I have to remove the veneer before I can rewrap in black nitron. Is the process of removing veneer the same as the process of removing plastic wrap from a shell?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Vintagemore2000!

Thanks for the reply. here is a couple of pics of the shells. I haven't even had a chance to take the heads off.

Everything looks pretty good and all I wish to do is rewrap in nitron black.

A local drum store said i should just sand down the exterior and apply the wrap to that surface. Is this an ok thing to do? Is it the best thing to do ?

If it were simply plastic wrap i would follow the great instructions on this site but seeing as it is wood veneer I am not sure. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
