I think you’ll be pleased with these. Despite the mods, I would be interested to hear what you have to say about the sound after you get them where you want them.

1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black

Hey, I've never owned a Camco, this was my chance to buy one without breaking the bank. I see what all original ones sell for, especially those in this configuration. Besides, there are no extra holes and all the hardware that's not original can be found if I choose to do so.

I get it. You got the right shells, hardware, etc. It's all good.

Just kidding about the George Washington hatchet. You bought a nice looking player's set that probably will play better than most of the other drum sets you have owned.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Whenever I hear one refer to someone elses kit as a "Player's Kit" it's meant as some sort of cut down. But I'm sure that's not what you meant. All kits are players kits, I don't buy drums to look at them, no matter how pristine they may be.

I was talking with some guys on the Camco FB page and apparently this is pretty common with Camco players, to refinish a kit because the wrap was in bad shape. Camco did offer a black laquered finish and I can tell by looking at them closely it was professional done.

They also told me that original t-rods, floor tom legs and mufflers can be found on that site. Maybe this will be my keeper.

EVERY one of my vintage drum sets would be classified as a player's set except for my 1963 Leedy Shelly Manne set. That drum set is pristine and 100% just as it left the factory. The Leedy set would not pass muster with the catalog Nazis. Even if Leedy did have a 1963 catalog, they would not show a set configured as 9x13, 16x16, 14x20 and a matching Shelly Manne snare drum. The other five drum sets have some unoriginal parts. The purists would nit pick them to death. That's their problem--not mine. Please enjoy your beautiful Camco drums.

Ya, I know about those guys and it usually doesn't bother me because I'm not a collector. I think Camco falls under a different umbrella than the other American companies. I think it's more about the construction and sound these drums produce than if every piece is original that makes them popular with drummers. I've seen re-wrapped kits selling for close to 2 grand. And there's the rarity factor, ya just don't see that many around. There's like 5 or 6 on Reverb, compared to 30-40 Ludwig or Rogers from the same era.

I'll be giving them a good workout tomorrow and hopefully they will sound as good as others I've heard.

Awesome kit! I have multiple kits and most of my vintage ones are re-covered because the original wraps were messed up. Doesn't change the sound and they are still "vintage" drums either way. Enjoy that very cool kit!

I was talking to my wife about this last night. I haven't spent this much on a kit in a long time, I suppose to some spending $1,400 is no big deal, but I'm a pretty much a cheap skate.LoLoLoLo

I've owned at least one kit from Ludwig, Slingerland, Rogers and Gretsch, I even owned a teardrop Sonor and Trixon kit. Camco drums always eluded me because of rarity and price. I may never find another one again that I can afford, so, these will be a keeper. If I get the urge to trade I've always got the Gretscherland. Cool1
