My christmas gift: ARIA International Royal Percussions Snare-Drum 14x6.5

Hi there.

I just registered. I am from germany, so sorry for my english. I will do my best;)

I got an "old", unrestored snaredrum with unknown history for christmas.

On a silver shining metal plate is to read in red letters:

ARIA International Royal Percussions. My web-search let me found out:

The brand ARIA was founded in the late 1950's from Arai Shiro, Hoshimo, Japan. They usually built guitars.

I wanna restore this drum, but I do not know where to get parts, cause some parts are missing or defective.

Specs:

Full chrome steelbody

14"x6,5" size

Hoops with 10screws

Full parallel throw off wire mechanism

Internal tone control drumhead muffler

Does anybody know more about Aria and especially this type of snare?

How old is it? I guess early 80's

Where can I get parts? (parallel wire and internal muffler are missing, hoop is not original and defective)

I would like to restore it. I dont care about being worth it. I just love this snare. Its a gift from my very best friend;-)

I think my ARIA looks quite like a TAMA Imperialstar from 1980th..

That drum does greatly resemble a Tama from the 1980's. I would say your best bet for parts is locate Tama parts. That would have been the King Beat Snare by Tama with the Parallel strainer. You can easily find a new ten lug hoop. But yea I'd look through Ebay and see if anyone has any of the Tama parts for sale, looks like they would be compatible.

You will be right. Thats the best way to start.

I did read somewhere in web that Aria and Tama have had a relationship in the 80's. But I do not know if it is right.

I would like to know more about Arai Drums. And it would be great to know how old this snare really is. It seems to ne very difficult to get information.

My snare seems to be very rare..

I've noticed on here through other threads that there are a good amount of Japanese drum makers that are greatly unknown. I forget the names at the moment, but some nice drums that we've never heard of. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those.

I have already checked the MiJ-Name-list in this forum. Aria does not appear there..

So it might be a nearly unknown brand? Maybe even a low budget brand.

But the name: International Royal Percussion...great words:)

Okay, I wrote an email to www.ariaguitars.com.

I hope that my information is correctly. Aria builds wonderful guitars by the way. Really high-class. Since 1956.

I hope my Aria Snare was built there....

I am pretty sure Aria is one of the Hoshino stencils

The earlier Aria drums used a cursive script on the badges and also the drum heads

the badges were either plastic or metal and they were applied with fasteners

Later they continued with the cursive script on the badges but went to the block letters on the heads

I am certainly not 100% sure on this ...but with the foil sticker type badge and the block letter graphics

My best guess would be that the drum is late 70s to mid 80's at the oldest
