Last weekend the surviving members of our 60s surf rock group got together, along with a couple of new players, to jam as we do every 5-6 weeks. I used my 67 Supra BB Clone and again I was really pleased with the sound. It has a deeper tone and much less ring than my "stock" 63 Supra (which is still my favorite snare). Has a great cross-stick sound too. I tend to think that it's the powder coated shell that gives it the "mello" tone. When I first installed the tube lugs, single flanged hoops and the Fyberskin head on the original chrome shell I did not like the sound at all and considered selling it. Then I realized that I had too much invested in it to sell at break even so why not spend more and get it powder coated. Now I love it and will use frequently.
