Most valuable vintage drums?

Loading...

One thing that seems nice for guitar players though is the nice looking stuff that is being made today. I looked at a Fender catalog and even the new squires look nice! I know the basses look good too. I don't know how acurate some of these are to a real vintage piece and obviously the vintage one will have "the" sound. I just know that if I were gigging on a crappy bar circuit I would hate to bring a real vintage beauty out there.

I used to fill in with a band from time to time and the guitar player was a collector and was pretty much playing most of that stuff when it was new in the early 60's. He owned a telecaster from the early 50's that was made the first WEEK that Fender started using the name telecaster. Eventually he stopped bringing it as the value of it was just too much to justify using it in some crappy bar.

Thank God that vintage drums are much more affordable. It makes me a lot more likely to bring a vintage set out from time to time.

@wflkurt, the trouble is looking at shiny new guitars is like looking at a modern Gretsch or Ludwig legacy et al. It is, but really it ain't, if that makes sense.

Anyway adding to the trail through this thread......

I think A complete Billy Gladstone kit would top 65 K.Early L&L Black Nickel over Brass drums and an original Slingerland Black Beauty Black Nickel over Brass being at the top of the list I thing...Mike would know.

But If we were to talk celebrity drums,Ringos Ed sullivan kit ,in my opinion, would easity top 1 Million at auction, with provenence by Ringo himself.

I think "celebrity sets" command the biggest bucks. Ask Donn Bennett or Steve Maxwell. I've owned a few and they go for the biggest bucks.

From Ickybaby

There is also the fact that there are far more guitarists than drummers driving the market. Also, it's way easier to display a guitar on your wall than a drum kit.

YES YES! Tooo many guitarists ! and so many like to have several guitars even if they don't consider themselves collectors. also many drummers are really happy to have one kit and maybe an extra snare so collectors of drummers are more rare and I think there are less drummers than guitar players. just my 2cents.

Im fairly confident if Bonhams vistalite went on sale, it'd easily top 1 million. Just think how much Dave Grohl or someone would pay to get it

I truly believe vintage drums will one day shock us all at how much they will eventually be selling for. It's happened in every other market and I see no reason why it won't happen here. They are already going bonkers for American made drums from the 60s and 70s in the UK and Germany.
