Sorry to keep bothering you vintage experts, but I am seriously looking at buying a Rogers 60's kit shortly:-)

Would anyone have any inout on these 2 kits that are for sale in my area. Is the asking price fair, and overall would either one or both be a good buy?

Thanks again for any input and comments

Phil

Well, I don't like BDP, so I won't comment on that one ... Other than to say that I love the sizes and the era of build.

The gold has a non-original mount, so it should take a hit on price. I think its a bit high. I really don't like the 12 to 16 jump ... Dang I'm getting personal. Sorry. Beautiful, though.

I'm no Rogers expert, but....I will say this...I'd go for the gold one. The mount may be the original, but mounted in the wrong place....meaning, there could be another mount that you can't see on the bass drum under the tom in the pic. That forward position is probably for a disappearing cymbal holder and the seller doesn't know any better. I'd ask for more pics. Price is a tad high also.

Also not a fan of black diamond. :p

I think that forward mount was originally a twin Tom holder that was pulled and replaced with a single. Hole space is the same. That would infer there is a missing 13 Tom.

If BDP is a color you like, its the better deal. Judging by the snare drum, this kit..... if it is indeed a factory born set came from 63-late 64, early 65. I base that on the clockface throw off on the powertone. Numbers on Cleveland tags for toms and bd from these years should be below 50,000. If they have very close serial numbers..... they could have been assembled on the same day.

Theres really not enough information on the sparkle set to make an accurate assessment. Nice color.... but more pics. It is a fairly rare color and you should always fear a rewrap without really good information from the seller.

Agree that pricing is high on both sets.

Champagne set is real nice, but almost too nice...agree on rewrap concern. Also, would want to see inside of drums pics to see if there wre extra holes covered up, etc., and especially thge tags. Not sure this is a 67 kit....seeing pics of tags would help. Tom mount is unusual but not unheard...have seen this setup before. Usually that location is for a double tom mount (Londoner type setup), but uses a different mounting than what is shown.

All in all, would suggest more info on the Chmapagne...but he also states no haggle pricing, which might be a show stopper...at tops I would say $1,000 for that set.

The BDP Cleveland kit, considering the included snare drum, would be my choice, and the price is fair.

Thanks for all the valuable input folks. That really gives me some things to look at when I see them this Saturday.

It really comes down to making a decision on those 3 kits....2 posted on this thread and this one from the other day: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-drums-percussion-vintage-1968-blue-onyx-set-kit-W0QQAdIdZ245554156

I really do like the Blue Onyx, but the BDP with snare and being a Cleveland '64 may just win out.

Thanks again, and I'll keep you all posted

Cheers

The BDP is the best buy it has a wood snare and it is all matched the price is more than fair just try and find a matched set of clevelands..

set number two the champagne set i have questions as to it's orgin the tom holder is a double tom holder from the older tophat or dogbone style it;s placement is correct assuming no other holes.. so there would be a missing 8x12 as the tophat set was a 2 x 8x12 configuration or it is a later double tom mount that was replaced with a standard swivo unit ,or it was special order which i doubt. the style of tension rods on the bass drum show later date to many questions on this one...

Kit number three also has a double tom holder and looks to be a made up kit kit number one is a clear winner for value...
