Hello, I am new to this forum and drumming in particular. Though I've played bass for 8 years or so I decided to pick up drums because I've always had MADD respeck for the instrument.
Anyways heres the problem going on right now.
My friend gave me a drum set 3 or 4 years ago and as a begginer i beat the hell out of it and was found commenting on how "shoddy beat up and junky" the kit was.
recently I found out just what my friend had given me.
My friend had given me a bass drum and tom that belonged to a 1980s slingerland and a...heres the big one...the floor tom and snare drum to a cleveland era Roger's Holiday. the latter of course is a very valuable kit if in the right condition. The floor tom and the snare however are actually in mint condition.
Over the recent year or so I've gotten more serious with drumming. I'm far more competant and have develouped marginal skills in it. I have a long way to go of course but I need something to learn on. The bass drum and the tom attached to it move forward as i play. almost all of the heads on the drums are taped over. im borrowing cymbals from the friend i got the drums from and the cost of replacing all this stuff is going to be huge, probobly greater than 500$. i need a set of my own cymbals and new hat stand as well as new skins. and i look at this floor tom and this snare and think dollars...
here in lies the problem. my friend happens to have the other pieces to the set. which i have looked up as being valued at over 2000 in the right condition. its a gold sparkle and i dont know how limited that color was. not only that i know a person who wants to buy this...i was thinking of offering to sell the things for 500-900 i dont know which id be likely to fetch for it but its all to buy a new drum kit.
the part that makes it harder is that my friend really enjoys third and some 2nd wave ska, now even though third wave ska is not nearly as great as 2nd wave, the kit would be IDEAL for 2nd wave ska. and lets face it the things sound beautiful.
on one hand i dont want to take and profit off of a friends hideously generous mistake...on the other hand i really want a new drum kit that will function.
heres the even more unbelievable kicker to it...he got the kit...FOR FREE
