Montgomery Ward, Sears, Spiegel Catalog drum sets?

Loading...

Here is a Ginger Baker wannabe,on his 1965 Sears drums. That is a mighty 12" ride cymbal. These were the best Christmas presents ever. I saved up lawn mowing money to buy a 16" Kingston ride later on. Again bought thru Sears. My folks didnt have a ton of money so,like everybody else they made payments to Sears. My neighbor got a set of silver Montgomery Wards drums the same year, but he got a FULL set with hi-hat and all of the cymbals.I still have that 16" Kingston what racket it makes!!! V

Those red drums look like my first kit.

Japanese, CREST Brand, Red Pearl.

Red Pearl was cool.

We ALL want those kits back. Don't We?

Oh, man! That's cool. But it will take me forever to figure out where the drums are! LOL!

I have tried to tag all musical instrument pages with at least "Musical Instruments" but more specifically "Drums" so if you find even one of the pages that has that tag, you *should* be able to click that tag link and see all other tagged drum pages. There are some weird search features disabled by flickr that might interfere with this, but I think this one works for public visitors.

Alternately, this link should take you right to all those tagged pages.

Thanks for visiting (in the web stats, I saw a sharp increase of one drum page's stats linked to this site. heh heh)! :) Cheers!

Awesome post wishbook! Thanks O-lugs for bringing this subject up.

Thanks! While I'm not a drum enthusiast now, like many kids, I had my own set back in the day.

Christmas, 1977.

My first set of drums were from the 1964 Sears catalog. A Champagne sparkle set of Kent drums with the metal hoop instead of wood on the bass drum. Those drums actually sounded really good. It came with an 18" cymbal that sounded like a car accident when you hit it hard. The price, $179.00. I wish I still had them just for the memories.

Loved those drums in these catalogs! Started playing when I was 11 and my parents rented a Slingerland Hollywood snare drum from Wallach's Music City in West Covina, CA. I was still playing after the 3-month rental period was up, so they bought me a snare drum kit from Sears... just as shown in this picture! I played nothing but snare drum (and 10" brass cymbal!) for the next two years!

I was taking a 1972 Premier kit into Banjo Center recently to see what they would give me,and on the way in,a lady saw the logo on the front BD head, and asked me if JC Penney sold those drums!

I said no,they are made in England...and she went...oooohhhh..

Too funny....

I loved the Sears wish book as a little kid. I'd check the toy section, then the musical instruments and dream about drums. Now raise your hand if you would sneak a peak at the women's underwear section?Yes Sir

I'd go straight there! Sears also sold houses and there are a couple in my neighborhood still. One actually is a very well made sprawling ranch that resold for a nice price recently. They held their value....
