Monitors for Singing Drummers

From idrum4fun

When I was in my rock band, I purchased a TOA SM-68 non-powered monitor. It came with a bracket so I could mount it on a mic stand just to my left. It was great for hearing our vocals! I then became aware of the SM-25m, which was a powered monitor. Always wanted to try it, but was happy with the non-powered SM-68.-Mark

Very similar setup for me also .. Small Boss monitors in close and bracket mounted off of a cymbal stand.. I have one powered & one non powered.

(these are to assist pitch/levels for the vocal mix only)..

Drums & instruments go through the normal PA/foldback...

Cheers

John

On drum gigs, I use a Hot Spot monitor that sits on my snare drum case. It's plenty loud for my purposes, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

John and Bob, are you singing or just monitoring? If singing, are you doing anything special to eliminate or reduce feedback?

I'm sometimes singing backups, sometimes not, but I always need to hear vocals clearly. On the outdoor gigs where we have strong vocalists, I don't bother setting up a mic. I have never had a feedback problem with the Hot Spot.
