Try assorted party balloons at B,day parties. I got a clear head center porthole and it perfect. Some pop out though.

Here is a photo of the offending fungi. Probably would have been fine with the Evans pillow, but instead it was two pieces of poly foam that covered half the bottom of the drum.

Besides the mold...are they Velcro strips?

is that before or after washing with Clorox ?

It may have been addressed by an earlier owner but I have not yet started.

Those are Velcro strips which are quite common when using an Evans pillow. That is how you adjust how much dampening to use on which head, if any. I have them in all my working drums though this one already had the strips installed prior to my purchasing.

Wow, I must confess, I have never heard of these pillows...interesting.

I swear by them and would be remiss if I did not use them or something similar. In most cases audio engineers use two mics on the kick with one inside like an SM91. Those mics just sit on the EQ pad. That mic scenario works well as the engineer can tailor the sound per song.

Tried vinegar and really had little results. I'll get after with Clorox next if I can find the time.

My only concern with the Clorox would be that it might bleach out some of the the shell color too, anyone?

Use a mildew spray meant for use in the shower. Not too strong, it should do the trick.

Copy that. The drum is out for a re-wrap as we speak. I'll see what I can do with it when it gets back. Thanks guys!
