The "Continental" typical steel MIT snare drum I got with the latest "adventure" rims are ever so slightly too big, causing them to actually fall off the edge of the head if not very carefully centered, and even then can't be tensioned up beyond 1 full turn. Yep, these will have to go in the metal pile for recycling...They are so thin they twist instead of pulling straight down. This is the second time this has happened with a very similar drum about a year ago. I fixed the problem with a set of Export rims via 3bay for $20. Going the same route again...

Also, on a different note, I wanted to comment on a Tama Swingstar snare I rehabbed recently- it is a SLEEPER! After correcting some strainer issues which were more connected to using snare straps instead of string, this drum sings- very "loose Acro" sounding-really nice, and stays in tune via Tama's little plastic insert in the lugs. I'll keep a lookout for these from now on.
