Mis Matching Hihat combinations..

Guidance needed here..lol

Have 2 sets of Zildjian 13" hats...

The matching (I'm sure of..!) are early 70s made in Canada ..

740g top with a 835g bottom..

My original "go2" set are a 60s ..

609g top with a early 70s (Canadian) 1030g bottom.

The later...I've been playing for over 7yrs straight...

I tried the 60s top with the 70s 740g bottom...them tried the 835g bottom

I'm I just .."use to my orig" set up or should a hat set be a bigger difference from top 2 bottom...?

Also would the weight difference of 609 top to a 1030 bottom

Be a New Beat combo or..?

Info,ideas..?

New Beat weight ratios are usually right around 70 percent top to bottom. Mis match hats are fun to mess with. Go with what suits your ears. Sometimes the answer is certainly unconventional weights and sometimes not.

I have had great success with mismatching hats and have sold quite a few that way enjoy the different sounds you can get

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies

Even cheap line models work well for bottoms - so long as they are thick. The thinner good quality cymbals are harder to find - but then again - sometimes the cheaper thinner tops come to life with a high quality heavier bottom. Sometimes the results are magical.

Swapping HHs are a really fun time - and it is not hard to discover some unique and amazing results.

My favorite cheap bottom is a green label Pearl CX-500 bottom from the 80s. It seems to add wash to just about anything that sits on top of it.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I play similar weight mismatched (mishmash) hats; Super-Zyn 650 (ish) gram over Zildjian pre New Beat 1020 gram

I also use a Super-Zyn 16" over a Zildjian Avedis 16". Not sure of the weights, but they're a medium thin over a medium.
