Miniature Replicas Of Your Drumset Last viewed: 1 minute ago

From DaddyNowhere

Came across this thread on the weekend, and it's taken me a while to dig up the picture, but here it is. This is a replica I did back in the 90s, of my Pearl BLX kit. The figure I used, was a ''Big Jim that I'd lopped off the head, and replaced with a plasticine sculpture of my own. Sorry for the dust, but it is difficult to keep clean. I can't estimate the amount of time I spent on this, but believe me, it was significant. If these guys can produce something comparable for less than a couple of hundred, it would seem like a bargain to me... if I had the money that is. Cool stuff.

DaddyNowhere-that is the coolest miniature drum kit i`ve ever seen and i loved the"Big Jim"lopped off head figure with your own head creation.I can well imagine that it took you alot of time to put that together. The detail is incredible of the Pearl BLX kit and as John has asked what did you use as parts to make it so life like?I`m sure alot of members would be interested in hearing just exactly how you did it.Please post how you did this amazing miniature drum kit.

Thanks guys. I believe I posted a pic of the Ringo model I did a while back. Tried doing the figure in plasticine, with a heavy wire frame, but the plasticine started cracking after a while, so I thought I'd try using an action figure body on the next one. I basically used whatever I could find that would approximate the details in this small scale. Small food cans, and cut paper towel, and toilet paper tubes for drum shells. I used chrome tape for hoops, and some of the smaller chrome parts. Bought a thin sheet of tin, and cut with snips for double braced hardware, and got extravagant with the tubular hardware, and splurged on some small metal tubing from a hobby shop. Cymbals are cut from aluminum pizza tray that I carefully scored with a compass, and painted with metallic spray paint. You really don't want to know how much time I spent on those things. I've got them in pieces in shoe boxes at the moment - can't even find the time to try and reassemble them right now, though I am planning to do a more detailed Ringo kit, (a little larger) when I have a bit more time.

I`m absolutely blown away by your talent DaddyNowhere. The mini Ringo set is perfect right down to the drum riser and lighting. Not only do you pay incredible attention to detail but are also very resourceful in the materials that you used-very impressive indeed! When you retire you`ll have more time to complete the larger version of the Ringo kit.Man o`man that is really fine work and thanks so much for posting and sharing your "know how" and wonderful talent with us.You have a knack for making those minis come to life.Great stuff for sure!
