Are these as rare as a Rogers 14" floor? I did,nt say as valuable, just rare/elusive.
Mij...14"

I used to think that this was the case, but I've kinda changed my mind.
I've personally found five MIJ 14" floor toms around town since looking in the last few years. Two were part of a set and 3 were orphans. 2 Star, 3 Pearl.
I think that the 14" size was more common in the earlier days when most sets were 4 peices. When the 5 piece set became more popular, with the 16" floor tom, more drum sets were being produced overall (this is just a theory, though.) Anway, I think this is why you more often see the 16" fl toms.
Also, from what I've seen on ebay, the MIJ 14s are not getting the top dollar prices being asked, or at least they're not being snapped up very quickly at those prices.
So, I think that while there may be fewer 14s overall, they aren't exactly rare.
The fairly low priced Star kit I recently purchased on eBay has a 14"ft.

I would tend to agree with CN679 that it seems to be the earlier kits that had the 14" floors.
My oldest set of Stars is a 4 piece set with a 14 floor, whereas the newer Star kits I have are all 16s although they are 4 piece kits as well.

So my Crown kit;20,12,14,5.5 is not all that rare?...Its in great condition and its red onyx....nice little jazzer.
Well, you don't see red onyx everyday. So I'd say it's more rare for the wrap than the sizes.
COOL!!!..I think i,ll hang onto it then. They,re as light as a feather and sound quite professional with nice cymbals around it..Its amazing how often you would turn to a kit like this and leave the $$$$ kit at home!

That's what I do, Wayne...
I've got an mij 14 ft orphan myself. I don't think they are 'rare', maybe more like scarce.
I've got a 14" FT as part of my 60's Crown kit. It's a nice little lightweight tom. Still in the process of restoring the 12". But would love to see pics of your Crowns if you have them.
