MIJ Timbale - Who made this?

Loading...

Hellooooooooo John always a pleasure to type at you pal

The gathering for MIJ folks sounds awesome

based on my last post and the timeline of Star's participation and departure

I am convinced that the Gretsch cloned orange sparkle Norma kit

that I owed when I was 14 years old

and the Gretsch cloned gold glass glitter kit you sold

and the Star made blue sparkle Slingerland cloned Norma partial shown in my photos

are all Star made

As for Jay's Timbale I could not say as the Gretsch knockoff lugs are still being produced for Taiwanese kits as mentioned I have them on three separate Pulse entry level kits

and I have seen them on the 2nd generation Ludwig Accent kits as well

I'll snap some photos of the other drums that have these lugs. One is my Rocket snare, then I have another snare same as my rocket with no badge & a matching 13" tom. Also have a del ray ginger ale sparkle tom with these lugs and a red sparkle no badge as well. I assume they were all made by the same place given when you look at them all inside and out they're identical other than two slightly different bottoms and one being a tad longer. My guess is maybe the longer one was for bass drums and just used to same holing to save costs? I dunno. But I'll get some of the others posted interiors and all. Maybe that can shed some better light.

Here are the '60s Toms & Snares with the Gretsch knock off. The Rocket snare is mine. The other identical snare I have for sale. Upon looking at the badge holes perhaps it was also del ray. Either way, it's certain only one company made each of these ( at least the wood shelled drums ) as they're identical.

Though my Rocket badge also says " Hershman Musical INST Co. Inc New York "

" Made In Japan "

I assume they were the importer / distributor.

Those are some beautiful wraps! Could you shoot pics that can be a big help in determining manufacturer? - so parts are:

FT leg mounts

Snare strainers

Muffler knobs

BD/Tom mounting hardware

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

From Kenwood

... attached are several seller's pics of the partial kit I got from Mike It is identical to almost every Star kit which in this and many other cases was built to clone Slingerland No way are these drums Pearl

Agreed, that you say: 'almost'. There's one tiny detail:

the tom bracket with the inclination part in these Norma kit pics ...

... has holes in it.

I know from Star and their rail consolette only the 'ratchet style' within the round clip part, for the inclination of the rack tom.

So maybe this is a ... kit with 'almost all parts made by Star' ?!

Or the tom bracket is a replacement.

Cheers, Ralf
