... That video that Ralf posted with the old Star, I wonder if that drummer tours with that same kit?Brian

Good question, Brian - I'll ask him!

I know that the set is being sold in the meantime - but the video is elderly. We'll see.

I know from a German forum, that this kit is already sold in the meantime.

And just on today I've received the answer, that this drummer still uses a Star bass drum for professional gigs (music with electronic + jazz elements).

That's great to know. Thanks for the follow up, Ralf! I think now that I finally got the 20/12/14/14 Slingerland I was coveting, I'll sell my '73 Premier and get another MIJ with a 22" BD. Loved that sound!

See ya,

Brian

I'm pretty sure that Tom Scholz of Boston had an affinity for MIJ stuff. On the inside cover of Third Stage he mentions "Off-Brand drums with Zildjian overhead". Unfortunately, it doesn't get more specific than that.

While a technical wizard and very talented guy, I think that his drum sounds are not really his forte.

I agree, but he was in the age of that thuddy concert tom sound. I wonder why he never made a Rockman for Drums? ;)

Funny Post

Yep, I refer to the 70's as the "dark ages" as far as American produced drum sounds were concerned.

Oh man, do I agree with this. Don Henley's drum sound in particular makes me cringe.
