Nice orange sparkle! Yes, this is a Pearl stencil. Some of the guys tell me there is no difference in the re-rings, and I say big diff. You can see it and this is only your second. Good eye. The rings are very different from the Star rings. The early ones are roundover and a bit thinner than the Pearl ones, and I have not seen any Pearl round over edges on the stencils. The rings seem to be made of softer wood than the Star rings as well. You may want to round the Pearl edges a bit to the outside of the edges. It make the collar slide over much easier. As for the thickness, yes, this is a much thinner shell.

Looks like there are no snare beds in this one either. You should correct that. It wsill make a huge difference in the overall sound and will certainly minimize sympathetic snare buzz.

Did not get the snare beds in the pics, 1/8" deep. This one sounds a little "crisper" than the Star. However they are different heads. I like it!. I put the "JONNISTIX MOJO" ON IT. Thanks

Soaked all the chrome in a washtub with a heavy mix of DAWN dish soap for 48 hrs. Then put the elbow grease to it, then used turtle wax chrome polish and more elbow grease. Came out nice. That DAWN is some good stuff!

Looks like elbow grease is pretty good stuff too...:D

The difference in the sound is the edges. These have a "sharp" edge, whereas the older Star have roundovers. This is likely the bigger difference than that caused by head selection, not that heads will not make a difference, just that on these old, thin shells, the edges have a bigger impact than the heads.
