MIJ Restore for In Laws

Loading...

OK, 1 down and 2 more (bigger) ones to go. I'm restoring 3 MIJ drums to put together a small set for my Sister-in-Laws' family. A very musically enclined bunch, but I think they do need a drum set ;-) More to come.

Thanks to everyone for the support and parts!

Steve

Thanks guys, I was at "Austin Cities Limits" a 3 day Music Festival a couple of weeks back and saw more than a few "retro" wrapped drum sets. Very cool!

Is it the vinyl wrap they are selling on fleebay? Looking good so far if it is.

I also have a old m.i.j. kit on bare wood ,i'm thinking about rewraping it with this stuff witch is, i think, very apropriate considering the price and all...

I wanna give the kit to my nephew, but have to ask my sister first... Keep on Pl = Mind Blowi

Thanks Mike, I got the parts for the rest of the set yesterday.

Giger, I did check with the parents before offering too. It is the Ebay wrap and I'm not going to recomend it yet especially over bare wood. I think it is made to work better going over another wrap or paint. It seems very fragile and I'm not sure how well it's going to hold up with 3 crazy kids beating on them but for my first restore I wanted to do it as cheap as possible. I'll be posting more pictures this weekend or next.

*Steviewest! Thanks for the answer, that is exactly what i was wondering, about this wrap vs bare wood,

and as for those 3 kids, they'll go crazy over their new toy

i have no doubt about it.

Looking foreward to see more pics.

OK, I'm not liking the vinyl wrap at all now. :( I painted the floor tom hoping that the wrap would work better but it was worse. Maybe, I haven't figured out the correct technique needed to get it on a drum. Now I'm thinking of buying a cheap set for the cousins(saw a number on CL today) and use this set as a beater for my kid so he stays off mine ;-) More pix later this week.
