That would be a good grab. That is a STAR kit and will be a good sounding kit. Also comes with snare - I would snag that up quick.

That ride cymbal is a Camber - might sound good, might not - made in Germany anytime between 50s and 70s.

....and BTW - the Dodge reference was metaphorical - as in the 3rd competing company, the one with the least market share, yet one of the big 3 (in this case of Japan at the time). Also, I do NOT believe yours is a Star, and thus is not 'pre-Tama')

Now, Mickey's observation is very significant, because if that is made by the same manufacturer as Crown, I believe that would make it a Pearl-made kit.

The red one - the Raven- on the other hand is a Star-made kit - for sure.

Someone needs to give a definitive answer as to the source of Crown drums. They look Hoshino to me, but other knowledgeable folks say Pearl. They have totally different hardware, hoops, lugs, rods, spurs...the list goes on.

So much more fun trying to figure this out. I'm usually pretty good at researching but these left me scratching my head. Now, I'm only scratching it more.

These were not made by Pearl. They were made by Hoshino. Hoshino Kougyou was one of the big three manufacturers of stencil drums (along with Star & Pearl). They are often times confused with Star/Tama because their parent company is Hoshino Gakki. None of these three worked together. You can't just tell the drums apart by shells and wrap, you have to refer to hardware, noting that all three used Slingerland style lugs and stick-saver hoops at some point. These drums have Hoshino uniquely designed lugs. Tom mounts and strainers are best way to ID them. Also note that Sakae and Yamamoto also made some of the stencils as well.
