MIJ or MIJ shell with Slingerland hardware?

Loading...

Hey guys -

Trying to figure this one out. The shell screams MIJ, though the hardware is quite perplexing as the muffler looks to be genuine Slingerland. I have the seller looking to see what the threadposts look like on the belly of the lugs (if there are any). I suspect the lugs are MIJ though the muffler looks very Slinger to me and the strainer is a crapshoot - as it is incomplete.

Did Slingerland ever have a white felt on their mufflers? The wrap appears to be Star's Oyster Pearl. I will report the findings of the lug (posts?) when I hear back from the seller.

I think Slingy has more hook to the muffler rod than the L bend .

The Slinger muffler I have sitting in my living room (on a Stage band tom with the small know) hooks UP, not down like this one. But I still would like someone to confirm that Slingerland never had a white felt.

I recently negotiated unsuccessfully for a Majestic kit (no snare)

They were rusty and crusty missing heads hoops and with reso edge dings

The fellow was absolutely firm so no deal unfortunately

I did really like the color of the wrap

sort of a greenish with silver "bowling ball looking" wrap similar to that snare

There were no badges

but the tell tale outline of where Majestic badges had once been was clearly visible

not to mention the offset lugs

The snare looks mij to me

Hey Kenwood -

I know about this color because my first full restore was one of these Majestic kits. I will include a pre-restore pic, which seems to show more green. Generally, mine had less green in it - but it was there for sure.

These variations could be due to a combination of factors - fade, different runs, natural variations based on the process I suppose.

I used the word had - as I sold it - to a friend...so it is not far :)

I don't even know about the numbers you guys were throwing around - but I would bet that his number was justified if it was restored. But since it was not - he should have played ball with ya.

I have a Bollero kit with rerings that has Slingy-style hardware and what looks to be a similar shell makeup, so i'm thinking MIJ too. I know not of Slingerland mufflers though, and I don't have the Bollero snare so can't verify the strainer.

Hello John,

nice resto on those Majestics

It was a conflict for me in that negotiation

I wanted the drums because

A. I liked the green and silver wrap

B. I knew back at the shop I had all the parts that were trashed and in need of replacing

I would have loved to add them to my Japanese drum display

as I do not have any kits with a greenish coloring of any kind

Based on that I do sort of regret not buying them

But the seller was an antique/second hand store dealer with no give

Driving over (New Bedford Mass)I was initially prepared to give full boat

They did after all, have the floor tom which was nice for a change

But again, they were in very poor shape as they were and with no snare ect ect

even those couple of bass pedals were either broken rusted or both

If your friend ever cares to sell his ..I would be interested ...Kenwood
