MIJ luan kit - treat interiors?

Loading...

Hello my friends,

I have a Star Kit that I'm restoring, s-l-o-w-l-y. The interiors are painted grey luan. They appear very dry and the edges are sort of crumbly, or sort of like shredded wheat.

Do you guys treat your luan shells? Oil? If so, what type?

Thanks for any info.

Can't do much with painted interiors. Once all pits and voids filled on the bearing edges several coats of bees wax will help. This assuming edges flat/true and shells in round. Howard Feed "N" Wax works fine as well. Work in with 0000 steal wool ensuring no bits get in the lugs and all should be good.

Thanks Creighton. Just went to Amazon to look for that wax. Is it all the same stuff, some with orange oil, some called "conditioner"? Too expensive to get the wrong product.

They sell it at Home Depot ~ $8.00 for a 16 oz bottle

I have some shells like that also that have the grey paint. Has anyone added more paint to help close up the pores even more?

I would pass on the orange oil. Hope others chime in.
