I found this MIJ kit on cl, the wrap had been removed and was painted. The seller is asking for $300, but said he'd take $225. Deal or no deal? Thanks.

I'm not a fan of raining on someone's parade, but that much for MIJ and they're painted over----that would be a no deal for me. I'd feel better down in the $150-175 range myself. Throw out an offer. Worst they could say is "no."

I don't see the draw to an unbranded/unbadged MIJ kit that has been painted over, especially at that price. I think the badges that MIJ kits wore were a big part of there allure, at least for me.

The sellers price is way optimistic for what he has IMHO.

OK, I'm going to throw in my :2Cents: on this one...

I really like 60's MIJ kits, branded or not! Most unbranded kits were usually sold through retail stores, such as Sears and Montgomery Ward. What this kit does have going for it are the cool offset lugs on all drums. While some don't like this, I find it quirky, yet attractive!

It appears that everything is there and in VG condition. Yes, the wrap has been removed and the shells have been painted. Are you able to tell how well the paint job is?

If this is a kit you'd like to have, make an offer for no more than $200. While the owner may have spent quite a bit of time and labor with painting and detailing, it's still non-original now, and the price needs to be adjusted accordingly. Oh, and the 8x12 and 14x14 toms do had to the value!

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

I offered him $150, I think he'll take it.

I dig the offset lugs and smaller sizes, so I don't see how I could go wrong for that price.

I agree! For $150, it's a cool find! Those offset lugs and the tom sizes are the real prize here! Good luck!

What are your plans for them if you get them? Restore, new wrap or just play?
