Mid 70's Ludwig 5X14 Amber Vistalite

Loading...

Got this off Craiglist for $220 to complete my cobbled-together Vistalite kit. Not in mint condition due to a crack near the strainer that was repaired years before I purchased it, but absolutely loving the sound with a clear Vintage Emperor batter head I installed soon after purchase. I think the production year is somewhere around 1976 for this one

The snare side head is original to the drum and has never been replaced!

66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thanks! As soon as it popped up at that price on CL I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't miss.

With the old-school snare wire size I really feel like this drum's tone emphasizes the shell itself a bit more and it's naturally pretty fat with the head combo I'm running right now.

Thanks! I've been a Nikon DSLR user since 2009 and I'm a sucker for manual focus lenses as old as my Vistalites are! The main shot in this sequence was with my Nikkor-S 50/1.4, the snare head text shot with the Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5, and the photo with the coated head I want to say was with my 105/1.8.

I brought the Vistalite snare to church today (as I had last week at the end of rehearsal as well) and both me and the other drummer really liked the sound we got with one of those Remo muting rings on there. Seriously considering getting a second one just for the congregation's regular usage!
