Mid 60's Drum Manufacturer?

Loading...

Hello...

Can anyone tell me the manufacturer of the drum kit shown in the picture? This was an entry level and Asian made (I think) kit bought around 1965. For the life of me I cannot recall the company's name. (How about that orange striped shirt?) Laughing H

Thanks! - Steve

And Veri-Sonic sticks too!! Pic was taken maybe 1969?

Hard to tell, but the lugs look like Slingerland knock-offs, in which case the kit was made by Pearl, although it wouldn't necessarily have had the Pearl name. Maybe searching the web (or Pearl's site) for pre-Pearl-branded drum names will jog your memory?

It is my understanding that Slinger style hardware stencils were made both by Pearl and Star, and the T-rods appear to be Star.....that's my guess. Star made, though could have been branded (badged) Star or any number of other names.

Any other pics of this kit - even showing partial areas of the kit?

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Any chances of another pic showing the tom bracket and mount clearly?

Yea, maybe not Slingy, Slingerland had very few tom mounts on the BD back then, but I thought I saw a big plate, must be the hoop shine !!

Chances are excellent that they were built by either Pearl or Star. These two companies were responsible for the hundreds of "stencil" kits we know and love! If you had a little money behind you, you could custom order kits with variations on hardware, badges, etc. While most kits were fundamentally the same, each brand was cosmetically different. There were literally dozens of brands to choose from back in the 60's at local music stores and were what many of us had to choose when we, or our parents, couldn't afford the kit of our dreams; Gretsch, Ludwig, Rogers or Slingerland!

With the shape of the BD T-rods and the lugs, I say Star stencil, although the "oval badge" of similar Slingerland design is up in the air.
