Mid 1920s Leedy

Loading...

Hi,

I am trying to date a drum that I recently received.

So far, I have put it at 1925.

The shell appears to be 5 x 14, mahogany; not sure about the re-rings.

The bearing edges appear to be about 45 degrees, both, which I thought kind of odd. Still, is my first wooden Leedy from this era. Perhaps it was re-cut?

The next thing I found is that tension rods appear to be about 10-24, and a brass shell drum that I also had, had the larger 12-24 tension rods.

Both drums have 4-screw lugs.

Can someone help me with a better date and also help me determine if the bearing edges have been molested or not.

Thank you.

Edges and everything else look original. In the '20s and '30s, Leedy used 10/24 tension rods on their top of the line drums and 12/24 on the mid level tube lug drums. Go figure. Great score!
