This 3 1/2" X 13" model appears in Ludwig catalogs from the mid-1920s through the 1940s. What looks like the same drum appears in the 1951 Leedy and Ludwig catalog as Model 3131, "The Nifty". This snare has the original the tension rods, rim clips and snares, all in excellent condition. The heads, of course, are not original. The only thing missing is the handle for the throw-off, which I understand never worked very good anyway. I guess this model could be called the predecessor of "The Piccolo" snares.
Since this picture was taken I have put on a Remo Fibersyn Powerstroke 3 batter head, Ambassador Renaissance snare head and Gilbralter snare wires. (I stored away the original snares so I can return it to original anytime.) The catalog describes this snare as "snappy"...WOW!...that's an understatement. Talk about CRACK!!...hit this thing firmly dead center and it almost causes physical pain.
I also have the "Juvenile" shown with this drum at: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1928-ludwig-snare-drums-8.jpg
